Project view shows no projects after workspace open. #1634
Hi Sudin (@sudinnk), I'm an AI Support assistant here to help with your issue. While the team reviews your request, I wanted to provide some possible tips and documentation that might help you in the meantime.
Issue triaged automatically. Confirmed UI bug, suitable for community contribution.
Suggestions to troubleshoot “No Java projects found” in the Projects view:
Ensure you’ve opened a folder containing a recognized Java project (e.g. with pom.xml or build.gradle). The Java extension only activates when a Java project is detected.
• Related: “New maven project fail to get added to current workspace” explains this activation behavior → New maven project fail to get added to current workspace vscode-maven#928
Check the Java Language Server logs:
View → Output → select “Language Support for Java”.
Look for import errors or activation failures.
Run “Java: Clean the Java language server workspace” (Command Palette) and reload the window. This often refreshes the Projects view.
• “Error ‘No workspace folder found, please open a folder into the workspace first.’” (Theia) – similar UI, but specific to Theia IDE → microsoft/vscode-java-dependency#464
The team will respond to your issue shortly. I hope these suggestions are helpful in the meantime. If this comment helped you, please give it a 👍. If the suggestion was not helpful or incorrect, please give it a 👎. Your feedback helps us improve!

If you’re using Gradle, verify your Gradle wrapper version (>=4.x) so the project model can be imported.
